"Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision. The ability to direct individual accomplishments toward organizational objectives. It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results." — Andrew Carnegie
In gathering my thoughts to write this introduction to the 147th Annual Session of the SCDA I found this quote and felt it perfectly paralleled this year's theme, "Uncommon Effort, Common Goal". For any endeavor to be successful good leadership is a must, but a good leader is only as good as his team. As leaders of our respective dental teams we must strive to surround ourselves with those that share our common values and treatment philosophies. In attending this year's meeting you are helping to provide your team with valuable knowledge and training from our excellent instructors. Dr. Chris Griffin and your 2016 SCDA Convention Committee hope that you enjoy this year's beautiful setting at Hilton Head and appreciate our new choice of setting and all it has to offer from world class golf and tennis to great food and scenic beaches.
This year's committee has hand-picked a stellar line-up of speakers and supplemented them with an abundance of social activities sure to please all in attendance so be sure to join us at Basshead Oceanfront Deck at the Marriott on Friday night to interact with old and new friends alike. But as hard as it will be to pull yourself away from the sand and surf we hope our speakers will do just that. There is literally someone for almost every discipline at this year's meeting. Pharmacology you say? We have that with Dr. James Rutowski. Implants? Dr. Pierre Tedders has you covered there as well. Dr. Frankie Shull is joining us this year to update our knowledge on Esthetics and Restorative Materials. Dr. Ron Kaminer will help to enlighten you on lasers in Endodontics. CAD-CAM dentistry is represented by Dr. Chad Duplantis. Dr. David Paquette is scheduled to give you some straight talk on the latest and greatest in Orthodontics. Dr. Parrish King will update you on emergency protocols as well as surgical extraction techniques. Last but not least we have Mr. David Meinz and his highly entertaining Nutrition lecture telling us "What Good Is A Dead Patient With Perfect Teeth"? On top of all of these exciting speakers this year's committee is working with a different format to allow you to enrich your educational experience even more than usual. This year's courses will only last an hour and a half in an effort to fill each with more valuable pearls of information and allow each attendee a chance to better chance to experience more of the speakers as well as interact with other colleagues as well as the many vendors and sponsors that are graciously supporting this year's convention.
So if you have not already reserved the dates of April 28-May 1, 2016 you need to do so now and make plans to join us at the Marriott Hilton Head Resort and Spa. It is sure to be an amazing educational and social event that you do not want to miss. Go ahead and make plans for your entire team to be there and be that leader you know you can be.Sincerely, Ronald S. Wilson, DMD
