Ready, Set, Go! Infection Control + OSHA

Upon completion of this seminar, you will have a good review of OSHA and Infection Control standards for today’s dental practice. The topics to be covered as seen in the course objectives below will equip you and your dental team to maintain a safe environment for you and your patients. From the information presented you will gain a better understanding of the limitations of what can and cannot be achieved through different sterilization and disinfection techniques. You will attain knowledge of the Bloodborne Pathogen Standard and the requirements of the standard. It is our desire that upon completing this meeting, you will have acquired a rich perspective of OSHA’s required standard and Center of Disease Control’s guidelines for Infection Control.

  1. Recall signs and symptoms and mode of transmission of HIV, Hep B, and Hep C
  2. Describe the risks of exposure specific to work environment to bloodborne pathogens and the required prevention methods
  3. Discuss Hazard Communication, including changes in chemical labels, the use of pictograms, and Safety Data Sheets
  4. Discuss basic infection control principles applicable to a dental practice including proper disinfection process for environmental surfaces and patient equipment
  5. Recall four (4) critical steps in instrument processing and explain Spaulding Classification
  6. Understand the Importance of treatment, maintenance and monitoring of Dental Unit Waterlines
